  • Responding to outdoor display technology Oct 18, 2024
When deploying an outdoor display, a range of environmental factors must be considered that can affect its performance and durability. These factors aren't just exposure to weather factors; They cover a range of nature and climate challenges that require advanced technology to address.   Extreme temperatures: Outdoor displays must function flawlessly over a wide range of temperatures. In cold climates, displays are at risk of slower response times and possible freezing of liquid crystals in LCDs. Conversely, in a hot environment, overheating can lead to component failure. Advanced thermal management systems are essential to regulate internal temperatures, and our products have a variety of ways to better control the internal temperature of our products.   Moisture and humidity: Moisture, whether from rain, snow, or humidity, poses a significant risk to electronic components. Prolonged exposure can lead to corrosion, short circuits, and reduced display performance. It is essential to implement comprehensive sealing techniques and use moisture-resistant materials. The IP rating (ingress protection) is a standardized measure of a display's ability to resist moisture, with higher numbers indicating better protection. Therefore, it is necessary to have an IP66 degree of protection.     Sunlight and glare: Direct sunlight affects outdoor displays in two main ways: it washes the screen, making it difficult to read, and it increases the internal temperature. To address these issues, displays often use high-brightness LEDs and incorporate UV-resistant panels to protect against sun damage. Anti-glare and anti-reflective coatings are also used to maintain visibility in direct sunlight. Glass panels can be treated on request.   Physical stress: Outdoor displays can also be subject to physical stress, including wind, dust, and potential damage. Tempered glass, robust housing materials and safe mounting solutions are used to prevent physical collisions. Dust and fine particles can clog and damage internal components, so displays must be designed with filters and seals to withstand such conditions.   Electromagnetic interference: In urban environments, electromagnetic interference from a variety of sources can disrupt the functionality of digital displays. Implementing electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) design principles can help ensure that the display operates reliably in the face of such interference.
